THREE NEW POEMS BY MAHMOUD SAID KAWASH
DESPITE THE PITCH-BLACK NIGHT
Despite the raging winds that do not realise mercy
I extended my sight to the spaces of stillness
With eyes that believed in your existence
I scattered silence over the orbits of the distance
To listen to the melodies that played the breeze of your breath
Perhaps it would guide me to you
For you
I fought the winds and raged through the calm of the depths
I scattered the strands of the sun to get lost in all space
So the darkness lit and the sunset of the horizons brightened
Perhaps I would see you from afar
On which ports were you waiting
For you I came from the depths of my soul
To whisper and say how much I miss you
And how much death assassinates me in your absence
So extend your hand to me so that I may be strong again
I shout with your promise that one day we will meet
Perhaps your voice whispers to me
Where are you?
INNER JOURNEY
Silence sometimes forces me to travel inside myself
So I listen to the whispers of a quiet harp
Playing my own tunes
I lose the innocence of my feelings
While the night drowns in the paths of darkness
And the world around me calms down
And my sky wears a dress embroidered with stars
So I throw my soul for the winds to carry it to you from all -dir-ections
Then...
The dream shines among the spaces of your mind
So I sip the taste of your imagination
And pour my pulse into you
by drop
To melt all this pain dwelling in you
And quench your thirst buried in the deserts of your loneliness
I will revive the agony of your old dream
And scatter the nectar of your withered roses
You will feel my specter as a departing breath in you
And when the moments are crowded
You search for me among the pillows of your dreams
And you see me as a perfume you desire
So ask the distances about me
To realise that there is no salvation from me
And that I live among your cracks
Embracing everything in you
I will disappear among your pores
And vanish in the drops of your blood
And sneak you from vein to vein
To return with your perfume robbed of my senses
I will sail among the waves of your ghost in my dream ship
Covered by a sail melted by your warmth
And I will die drowning in you
I HAVE ABONDENED ALL LANGUAGES
I have broken the chains of silence to scatter around me
Nothing surrounds me but dark concrete walls
No holes of light penetrate them
I have established the borders of alienation
And I have travelled with my sorrows
With cracks that live on the features of my parts
Moaning from the excess of pain
I rest with my pains at the farthest-limit-s of the abyss
I am covered by clouds
There is sunrise,´-or-even sunset
I inhabit that pale spot
Without any Rituals
Without any life
Leaving to you all the signs of joy
Covering the ice of your features
Inhabiting the cities of longings alone
Inhabiting the kingdoms of love without me
So feel it if your heart can
Yes, my love
I will leave to you all the spaces of the world
To accommodate only the breaths of yourself
Perhaps you will realise how you can contain me
As for me, I will remain on this other side of the pulse of life
Watching you living a long life
And that’s it!!
