The Venezuelan organization Foro Penal has published a list of the country s political prisoners, expressing concern over the increasing number of political prisoners, which reached 927 on 2 th June 2025.

there are growing concerns regarding some detainees deprived of their liberty for political reasons, numbering 52 people whose whereabouts are unknown, in addition to a list of other human rights and humanitarian violations according to the organization, that sent the updated list of names to the UN Human Rights Office and the official human rights office for investigation and verification.

Previously, the UN Human Rights Council s Fact-Finding Mission on Venezuela warned that the crackdown is growing in the country, undermining citizens civil liberties.

Protests erupted following Nicolá-;-s Maduro s inauguration for a third presidency on 10 th January 2025 sparking an unprecedented wave of popular anger when some opposition figures revealed evidence of electoral fraud.

This was followed by massive governmental persecution for actual and alleged opponents, journalists, human rights defenders, and ordinary citizens, allegedly affiliated with the opposition.

Foro Penal recorded the arrest of nearly 2,000 people between election day and inauguration day, 1.135 of whom remained in prison as of 10 th February.

Foro Penal is a Venezuelan civil society organization that works to defend human rights, known as the "Penal Forum," and provides free legal assistance to people subjected to arbitrary detention and their families.
