Israel-Iran War – The Impact of Religion on Perception

“Religion turns people into lunatics” – Swiss proverb

I heard this proverb when I arrived in Switzerland about 32 years ago. Over time, I came to realize that it is a very real truth for millions of people—especially in the miserable East. More recently, I’ve come to understand that religion doesn’t just affect the mind—it affects the eyes and ears as well.

First: How religion turns people into lunatics

I read a news article titled “Believe it´-or-not”:
A Sunni man from Afghanistan, strapped with an explosive belt packed with massive warheads, entered a Shia mosque intending to detonate himself. Fortunately, the belt failed to explode due to some mal-function-. During the search and disarming process, authorities discovered that he had hidden his penis inside a metal pipe in his pants. Shocked, they asked him: “You’re carrying all these explosives—why protect your penis with an iron pipe?”
He replied with full confidence: “Because I’ll need it when I go to paradise… to ---sleep--- with the virgins and fight over their deflowering!”
According to the writings and sayings of the early scholars, “the believers will be joyfully busy.”

This demonstrates how religion can lead to a complete absence of reason: murdering those who differ from you guarantees a paradise of virgins and beautiful boys.

Second: The impact of religion on sight and hearing

Israel has waged brutal wars—crushing Hamas, liberating Lebanon from Hezbollah (which had hijacked the country and turned it into an arm of Iran’s clerical regime), pulverizing the Houthis, and silencing the Iraqi militias. These are facts that many—especially those guided by religious thinking—refuse to acknowledge.

Now Israel has destroyed all of Iran’s defense systems, including the Russian S-300s that were meant to protect its nuclear facilities. It has neutralized all of Iran’s domestically-produced defense systems and launched attacks.

Israel has so far targeted several key locations linked to Iran’s nuclear program and its protective military infrastructure. The strikes have been spread across several vital areas:
1. Natanz
One of Iran’s main uranium enrichment facilities. Israel had previously attacked this site multiple times through cyberattacks (e.g., Stuxnet), internal sabotage, and airstrikes. In the latest strike (June 2025), the surface structures were targeted.
2. Fordow
A highly fortified site located inside a mountain, also used for uranium enrichment. Israeli strikes hit some above-ground infrastructure.
3. Isfahan
This area hosts several facilities, including uranium conversion plants and nuclear fuel production sites. The Israeli attack targeted early-stage fuel production infrastructure.
4. Various military zones
Israel also struck Iranian Revolutionary Guard military sites, precision missile depots, and drone bases. The aim was to support the nuclear site attacks and paralyze Iran’s defenses.
5. Scientific and individual targets
Scientists and technicians involved in Iran’s nuclear project were also assassinated with precision. At least nine key figures were eliminated.

Israeli jets now freely maneuver through Iranian airspace after completely dismantling its defense systems—demonstrating to the world that Iran, like Hezbollah, is a mere paper tiger.

Despite all of this, which millions witnessed on Al Arabiya and other channels, the impact of religion on many Eastern minds is such that you still hear:
“Iran destroyed Israel!”
“Iran bombed Israel and will wipe it off the map!”
“Iran is defending Gaza!”
The delusions grow louder, with people shouting about Iran’s victory, power, and might—all of it stemming from the effects of religion, which has turned minds into lunacy, eyes blind, and ears deaf to understanding.

Unfortunately, religion has turned the people of the East—especially in Muslim-majority countries—into lunatics, blind, and deaf. They see, hear, and witness reality but continue to judge it through the lens of religious dogma.

And herein lies the great catastrophe: Religion has robbed them of reason, driven them into empty heroics, and the region has a long and “glorious” history of such delusional heroism.

That’s why rational leadership must study, learn, and plan—not follow the mobs, the ignorant, and the brainwashed. Let us not forget Ahmed Said in Egypt, who misled millions politically, while billions have been misled religiously and robbed of reality.
