Iraqis prevailed over their politicians

The epic political battle written by the Iraqi people on March 7th, namely the elections, have revealed that the Iraqis are capable of forgetting the past and its accumulated grievances. They have also proved that they can change its current outcomes and construct its future and dreams. This vulnerable nation has stood in the face of the forces of terrorism, despite their threats and attacks in order to stop it from practicing its sense of duty.

These elections have their own indications and decent images on one hand and certain unpleasant "if not ugly" images on the other. Going into the details of disclosing both sides, as observers have recently pointed to on CNN, the March elections have proved that the Iraqi people opts for settling its disagreements through peaceful means rather than bombs and bullets and this deems to be a positive aspect and a decent image from the Iraqi elections, especially when it comes to the blossoming experience of democracy and its practice in Iraq since it has not been reliably deep-rooted.

Another unpleasant aspect of the elections can be seen in the ways adopted by certain parties and political entities following the announcement of the partial results of the elections. These sides who are involved in shaping the political process in Iraq on the ground, as it was perceived by Iraqis, have not put democracy into practice with its values and principles, rather they only state their endorsement to the principles of democracy, but they are actually sending other messages different from what they had said in the first place.

We have an apparent example of this kind of inapt behavior in this regard. The statements of the so - called the media "spokesperson" of some of these parties following each fresh announcement by the IHEC about the partial results of the elections counting, are discouraging statements which represent the incompetence and backward mentality of these contested parties.

We cite a certain political party as its vote s top the others not only hushed and do not utter a word, but also praises the integrity of the IHEC and its role. Meanwhile, the same party starts complaining and screaming when the results show the others are taking the lead. This kind of behavior offers us an inapt and an appalling model of democracy, it also constitutes tangible evidence that they do not believe in democracy, except for making it a door for assuming higher posts.

This kind of behavior which is adopted by some political parties does not amount to the numerous sacrifices of the Iraqi people and its political elite has fallen short in shouldering this responsibility if measured against the sacrifices of the Iraqi people, that is why I am not hesitant when I say the Iraqi people has prevailed and the political parties have been seriously defeated.
