THREE POEMS
By Mahmoud Said Kawash
A SPECIAL GIFT FROM HER TO ME
The poem invades my letters
And strikes me with the arrow of rhyme
It entangles me in you… poetry
Oh, the might of the poem
When it becomes a bullet
Life begins´-or-ends with it!
I sit between your fingers and the pen
And write myself in you, a pulse
Spreading light in my soul
So the words harmonize
To the unique melody of the string
Oh, beginning of my life
When will the news come to me from you?
I am a gazelle… lost from you
Thirsty in your hills
Begging for water, and you are the rain
Your words are my doctrine of meanings
And I am singular in my love
So be gentle with my eyes, for the secret of love within them has become hidden
I wear the road and the distances
And I wander aimlessly
In a glance from your eyes…
When was life ever summarized…
In a look from you´-or-a glance?
O sea, your waves are silent
And drowning in you is a beginning and an end
The heart no longer asks the eyes
Is this the ebb´-or-the flow?
O letters spelled out in love,
The heart reads them before the eyes.
Who said that death in you is a sin that cannot and will not be forgiven?
Letters have led me to death,
And I met my end in verses of poetry.
So let me die in your poems,
Perhaps it is fate and destiny!!
WHAT IS LOVE?
When he asked her about love, she said:
Love is to see me in every woman’s face
To stay by my side and never feel resentful
To see your joy in my smile
And to see your pain in my tears.
Love is to see me in my silence a longing for your heart
And to fight relentlessly for your love.
Love is not words and emotions
But rather actions and sacrifices.
Love is more beautiful than all labels and titles.
Do you know now what it is?
THOUGHT
My longing for love is no longer
Arose in a heart that struggles
He saw Eve as a specter
From a radiance he never saw
Eve is no longer my concern
My heart has become indifferent to her
I am no longer passionate about her
So forget a matter that has become obsolete
And gone with a past that has passed
It is no longer prevalent today
