Prof. Dr. Sanaa Shalan: “The International Day of Peace Is Meaningless Without Peace in Gaza and Across the Globe”

Dr. Lubna Farah Translata English

Denmark/Sweden – On the occasion of the International Day of Peace, observed annually on September 21, Prof. Dr. Sanaa Shalan (Bint Naima)—Honorary President of the Peace and Friendship International Organization—has issued a strong and heartfelt statement calling for genuine and urgent global action to -restore- peace and justice, particularly in Gaza and other areas experiencing grave human suffering. Dr. Shalan emphasized that while this day, established in 1982 by UN General Assembly Resolution 55/8282, is intended as a global occasion to promote non-violence, ceasefires, and peace awareness, it is currently overshadowed by what she described as “ongoing and brutal genocide” in Gaza, carried out by the Zionist colonial machine and its military, logistical, and media supporters. “This day,” she stated, “must stand as a symbol of real and inclusive peace, not just a ceremonial observance of hollow slogans. It cannot have any moral´-or-practical value unless urgent, comprehensive peace is achieved—not only in Gaza, but throughout the world.” Dr. shalan strongly condemned what she described as systematic extermination and displacement of innocent civilians, highlighting the violations of international humanitarian law and the failure of the global community to act. She called out the United Nations General Assembly, international institutions, and world governments for their lack of meaningful response and urged immediate and tangible pressure on the occupying forces to halt the aggression and end the siege. “We are witnessing,” she said, “an unparalleled genocide—broadcast live in front of the world’s eyes—while the so-called civilized world remains silent. This is a defining moment for humanity. If we cannot defend Gaza, we have lost our collective conscience.” She further declared that the silence of the international community amid these atrocities is not just complicity, but a shameful stain on human history. She described the situation in Gaza as “the worst living conditions witnessed by any human being on the planet,” citing mass destruction of homes, hospitals, universities, and basic infrastructure, along with the deliberate deprivation of water, food, electricity, medicine, and communication. “This is a humanitarian catastrophe,” Dr. Shalan warned, “and a blatant affront to justice, human dignity, and the foundational principles of peace and human rights.” In her concluding remarks, she called on all nations, leaders, organizations, and individuals to speak out courageously and act decisively. She issued a -dir-ect challenge to the world: “O world that remains silent in the face of the crimes of the oppressors: on this International Day of Peace, speak your historic word—stand for justice, for Gaza, and for the oppressed peoples of the Earth. Otherwise, remain silent forever, and do not tell us about your fake ‘days of peace’.” Full Statement Available on the Peace and Friendship International Organization Website:
