CLOSED INDEXES
Mahmoud Said Kawash

Closed indexes and an alphabet can’t bear anyone but you
Lines carry weights from the awe of your feelings
Withered flowers carry the fragrance of your arrival to me
Pulses penetrate deep among the forests of poems whose roots branched out in you
So how far will you remain drowned in the depths of my alphabet?
Sailing between my ebb and flow
Mastering the art of drowning in me
How long will you remain travelling with the travelling night in the stillness of distant silence
Inhabiting the palaces of the sands of the impossible
Holding on to the roots of my love
Quenching your buried thirst from confusion that lies in the depths of my letters
To what extent will you inhabit the cities of my love
And remain still without a whisper of longing?
Tell me!!
Tell me so I can break the scales of my love, carry my bags, gather my scattered papers, and return my locks of hair to the prisons of chains.
Tell me!!
Tell me so I can finish burying my longing among the folds of my pillow
And smile a smile that no one but you has liberated
Yes, the bells of departure have rung
The winds have wandered with my sails
All the paths of meeting have been closed
And I, as you know, am a woman who does not stay long in the cities of hope
I always migrate alone to my old dictionaries
My dictionaries that are inhabited by the remains of a wounded heart
Carried by the statue of a woman who inhabited every place of love
Departed among all the paths of madness
And remained waiting for that final moment
Perhaps you will come one day to quench your thirst with love between my hands
Or with my own hands I will close all my indexes
And drown in a final prayer for you!!
