A WOMAN WITH THE FLAVOUR OF AUTUMN
By Mahmoud Said Kawash
On an expected date with the beats of life
And after the moon was full in the depths of the sky
The papers of his past days met on a withered pillow
Departing quietly with steps bidding farewell to the palms of time
On a journey to an exile that would not return
Like a rainthat fell from the womb of a gray cloud
With steps that got closer and closer
Sprinkling her departure on the surface of the earth
To be covered by a few grains of dust
Days veiled with the scarf of steadfastness before the flames of candles
At the summit of the past
Anticipating exhausting events
Her sight shattered on the thresholds of terror and the graves of oblivion
Swaying among her steps, perhaps she would succeed in escaping
But the hands of life closed the doors
Turned off the lights
Stopped out the evening and lit up the day
Like the fall of autumn leaves
For spring to blossom
Announcing the farewell of a life that has passed in silence
And the departure of the sunset seagulls
And the awakening of a new dawn
On the fortieth anniversary of the journey of life
