2007 / 7 / 13

At the same time judicial organizations in eight Arab countries: (Lebanon, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria, Jordon, Egypt, Palestine, Yemen) announce the establishing of regional alliance to challenge death penalty, the Egyptian Alliance to Challenge Death Penalty receives with great sorrow the judgment which support the death penalty on the Bulgarian nurses and the Palestinian doctor Ashraf Hagoog who are accused of infecting 400 Libyan child with AIDS virus. This judgment issued from Libyan High Court, as countries, which defend the right of life, want to commit murder also and to attempt life in the name of law.

This cruel judgment comes at the same time while the wholly international community makes every effort to put an end for death penalty and to replace it with another penalty.

Maat Center for Judicial and Constitutional Studies, the coordinator of" The Egyptian Alliance to Challenge Terrorism", call upon the Judiciary Supreme Council in Libya, the only body which can interfere, to amendment the issued judgment of death penalty against the Bulgarian nurses and the Palestinian doctor Ashraf Hagoog, and to abide by the international charters which lay down keeping the right of life!

In addition, Maat center call for all national alliances challenging death penalty and international organizations to call upon the Judiciary Supreme Council to review this brutal judgment.

We do not want countries to commit murder with the pretext of defending life.

The alliance coordinator,

Maat Center for Judicial and Constitutional Studies.
