A poem entitled --My Beloved is Far Beyond the Borders-

(1)

In whispers of the night, I ask "Where doth my love reside?
My paths have gone astray, is there one to reply?
My beloved lies far beyond the borders so wide,
And Gaza is scorched by iron s fiery tide.
Longing and distance, is there aught anew
That can -restore- to us the meadows joyful hue?

(2)

I return and read each letter with care,
Letters of love, passion, and yearning ,
Letters of loss,
"Letters that bleed the hearts.

(3)

To Layla I say, What can I -restore-?
When shall we meet?
When shall Gaza s dawn
Shine with victory?
That I may find you in its soil and return as before.

(4)

Doth your heart know that I am the lover true?
The anguish of my passion
It appeared in the wars
I do not hide Your love,
you are The paragon of Gaza s steadfast star.

(5)

I am like a child
Spoiled and mild,
Longing for your embrace
To forget all bonds in this place.

(6)

And Layla did boast,
Of her beauty, like the sea of Gaza,
charming like sands,
She made me drink the wine of love from her lips,
And a fragrance like fire,
a blazing flame.

(7)

Love has vanished beyond the borders sway,
I wonder, will she return some day?
And a star doth rise
Calling, "Come, arise!
These are the letters,
This is Layla, she cries,
Come, break my bonds,
And take me to you,
I love you, my one,
There are no bonds .
