Since the beginning of the nineties, I followed what was called "artificial intelligence", and I was keen to read what the brilliant journalist Mohammed Kamel Aref was writing about modern science and technology, and he devoted about four decades of his life to introduce us to it and made us love it in his brilliant way, interesting style and usual wit, in addition to that, we were introduced to a large range of Arab scientists, including young people.

And he didn t even quit his wit even when he was suffering from old age today, as he was simultaneously blinded and paralyzed. His new book, which was published in 2023, began with an introduction in which he says: "What would the traveller Sinbad do when he faced a wall that could not be crossed?"

He answered this question “Maybe he will sing, and what else can express what had happened to me apart from singing? “He was used to sing while he was sitting in his wheel chair in his nursing home.

While I was following the news of artificial intelligence, I was surprised that the United Arab Emirates established the first Ministry of Artificial Intelligence, accompanied by the Ministries of Tolerance and Happiness, and their responsibilities are not only scientific´-or-technological, but political, legal, philosophical, intellectual, social and humanitarian.

it seems that the 21st century is the century of artificial intelligence par excellence, which will change the world in an unprecedented and unparalleled way since the advent of man, millions of years ago. So will we live with robots? This was the motto of the International Robot Exhibition held in Tokyo (1999).

According to Aref, as stated by the American newspaper (USA Today), the computer industry today would not have existed without the Iraqis. Thanks to Al-Khwarizmi, who lived between 770 and 849 AD, where computer science today is based on algorithms and mathematical equations taken from it, which form the basis of computer programming. This made me thought for a while, when I heard the news of the Iraqi professor Dia Al-Jumailii getting the Order of the British Empire by the late Queen Elizabeth II, in recognition of his services and achievements in the field of scientific research in Britain.

About two years ago I met Dia at a conference in Baghdad, and we talked, for a long time, about artificial intelligence. In a special session with-limit-ed elites, he attributed the first origins of artificial intelligence to the algorithm. On a visit to Liverpool, he hosted me with his authentic generosity, and I asked him what is the nature of artificial intelligence? and who was the first scientist worked on it ? And how did he develop it in the modern era?

In short, he answered my questions with confidence, as if he were on an academic lecture: it’s the machine’s ability to make decisions without human intervention. It depends on the information that is fed by humans, although artificial intelligence is not new, but it has spread for three reasons-;- the first is - social communication and the possibility of obtaining and collecting information-;- the second - that the world relied on algorithms and mastered its use intelligently-;- and the third - the path of using this information at a super speed.

The history of artificial intelligence dates back to World War II, where its use was earnest and confidential by a scientist named Alan Turing who was able to decipher the well-known German army "Enigma Code" in 1943, through a device known as the Turing Machine, and in 1956 John McCarthy put forward what was called artificial intelligence, after information about it remained secret by Britain.

Al-Jumaili drew my attention to a film called Imitation Game that linked the old industrial revolutions to the modern one, which is the revolution of artificial intelligence in its fourth phase, in the culmination of the third phase of the industrial revolution known as the computer revolution. Whereas The Second phase came with the discovery of electricity, while the First one was associated with the invention of “steam engines.”

Dia al-Jumaili coined the term The Forgotten Revolution, which by this means the one that began in Baghdad in the House of Wisdom after the discovery of ”the zero” in connection with the science of algebra. Based on the Khorsmian discovery of the Algorithm , Turing developed his method of finding one machine to solve many equations, rather than making a single machine to solve each equation.

And the big question today, which preoccupies the world and revolves around international competitions and conflicts, especially with the rise of China: How can artificial intelligence be humanized? In which it is controlled, under the roof of the International Law, which was agreed upon to prevent its use in a way that cause harm to humanity, it was and still is one of the biggest challenges facing humanity today, will we sing the way of Mohammed Kamel Arif? I think that meditation, reconsideration and experience will bring back the consideration of science and technology, for the good of human beings-;- otherwise we will be doomed by annihilation.
