The EU Arab conference between peoples and regimes
The EU Arab conference of Sharm El-sheikh last February, became an issue in modern Mediterranean politics, how come democracy cooperates with dictatorship, but criticism is something and facts are something else, the conference is completely justified and has taken place exactly in time.
EU has been shaken by serious problems mostly coming from southern Mediterranean, terrorism and illegal immigration, and the Arab league is the only door open for it there to address these dangers. Though shaky and artificial, The Arab league covers a wide geographical range of the Middle East and southern Mediterranean and shares many views with EU partners , especially on Syrian civil war , Israeli Palestinian conflict and Russian Iranian intervention, besides both being left alone after American retreat from the region.
Moreover ,the Arab regimes , even their motives are changeable and can not be trusted, are pragmatic and conservative and still clinging to the national state concept with no imperial regional ambitions, like Persian´-or-Turkish, but rather with economic interests and their needs of investments, technology and expertise , can be easily found with their Europeans neighbors. Europe has been neighbor for thousands of years, in peace´-or-conflict and was the founder of most of the Modern Arab national states and second source of their culture, these ties make dialogue easy and possible.
However, positive outcome of any dialogue between the two neighbors can not be achieved without change in the dictatorial Arab regimes, as itself is a part of the problem and main source of the whole turmoil of the region, it is like a dilemma with no way out´-or-easy answer , but still dialogue is better than silence and the political, economic and cultural interaction, may at least benefit peoples, regardless of the regimes.
