Happy Birthday

Today…Eighteen years ago,
A little child was born.
It was a girl.
I took her in my arms,
I looked at her,
I had a strange feeling, unlike any other feeling I have experienced before.
I felt like holding a gift, a gift from heaven.
She cried, but her voice sounded like a symphony.
She looked at me. I was a stranger to her. She was a stranger to me. Although, we both felt like we’ve known each other for years, centuries, ages.
I smiled at her. I hugged her. She was so fragile, I was afraid I’ll break one of her tiny bones.
From that day on, we became family. I was her father. She was my daughter.

Eighteen years later, this little girl grew up to become a woman.
A woman I will love until I close my eyes for the last time.
Eighteen years, eighteen rich years flew by so fast, leaving me with lots of joy and happiness.
Eighteen years transformed me.
Eighteen years, and I still remember.

I remember her first cry and her first smile,
Her first words and her first steps,
Her first reward and her first punishment,
Her first hug and her first joke.
I even remember our first fight.

Eighteen years have passed by, and she’s still to me a little girl, my little girl.
I picture her every day on the skating ring spinning,
I see her playing piano quietly in the living room,
I see her on her bed surrounded by books, reading till she falls a,
I see her typing on her computer,
I see her standing in the first row of the school Christmas concert, singing, dancing and looking for me in the crowd.

Eighteen years have passed by,
And her first day of school seems to be like yesterday.
I still remember our anxiety waiting for the bus.
I remember her going to her best friend’s birthday,
And inviting her friends over to celebrate her birthday.
I remember our basement full of toys,
I remember her falling a and me carrying her two floors up to her bedroom.
I remember playing with her hide and seek in the nearby park,
I remember teaching her how to ride a bike and later how to drive a car,
I remember reading to her every night, watching movies together.
I even remember the agony of going to the dentist and doing homework every night.

Today, my little girl isn’t a little girl anymore.
She is a woman,
An educated woman,
A beautiful woman.
However, before it is too late, I want to look at this beautiful lady in the eyes and say
“Thank you, sweetheart!
Thank you for every minute´-or-even for every second you made me happy.
Thank you for teaching me how to smile.
Thank you for hugging me.
Thank you for kissing me.
Thank you for loving me.
Thank you for preparing me a sandwich and for a cup of water.”

Sweetheart!
In my life, I had plenty of success and failures.
But let me tell you,
You are my greater success.
You are my life’s love story.
I loved you, I love you, and I will love you.

Happy Birthday.
