Dialogue: breaks all the walls of animosity
Dialogue always has been an effective and positive tool for coexistence between people. We need to use this tool today in Middle East, more than ever. Thanks to the revolution of information and communication media, that was able to remove the barriers of time and space between nations, cultures, ethnic groups and denominations.
If we focus on Iraqi situation, we find out that, the lack of dialogue always been the main reason for all the misunderstanding between cultures, religions, political parties, ethnic groups, and denominations as well.
I am absolutely positive that the power of dialogue is the only peaceful weapon can break down the walls, which are crippling our nation politically and religiously.
It is a real fact that the lack of dialogue was the reason for most of our problems in Iraq because whenever we neglected this power, we gradually forced ourselves to use the power of weapons.
This was the case in the western civilization, when they used to fight all the time until they realized that the power of weapons does not solve their problems, but get things worse. With dialogue only, the Europeans were easily able to maintain their common interests and the interest of the people, despite all the difficulties and the differences between there nations. Interestingly, threw the power of weapon only, the Europeans were able to remove all the borders, boundaries, and all the animosities, were created through centuries among their peoples.
It seems that our situation in Middle East is not much different than the European situation, centuries ago. So we need to learn from their experiences if we want to reach to their level by using the openness policy with each other, which is the greatest tool we can use to break the invisible walls between our people, the walls are separating us by exterior and interior borders, and crippling our people’s capability to improve, reconstruct, and rebuilt our countries.
We cannot deny for sure, that the northern part of the country “Kurdistan” is moving to that -dir-ection very fast. It has been a decade since the Kurdish government found the way to support “the openness policy”, and to rejected all forms of discrimination practices on the basis of sex, religion, ethnic groups, and to establish a real model of tolerance, as well as intercultural dialogue and acceptance of others.
We expect that Baghdad and the surrounding cities, states in the southern part and the western part of the country would learn from our experiences in Kurdistan. We hope that, they would find a way for the people “ Shea and Sunni”, to live together peacefully, constructively and to be able to develop a sense of community and belonging, after the ongoing political wars between these two sects of Islam since 2003.
