The Egyptian Mainstream Mentality

The current Egyptian mainstream mentality is a result of many social disorders we are facing nowadays. Some of these social disorders are relating to the freedom of thought and women s rights. so what is the reason behind this?

Egypt was more liberal before the 70s than it is today. Two factors have contributed to the development of such unusual Egyptian behavior: The Wahhabi influences from Saudi Arabia and the Muslim Brotherhood. These two factors are relating to one ideology known as "Islamism." They are not different. Both are Islamist. Both want the implementation of the sharia law. In the last few decades, they have reshaped the Egyptian society to be consistent with their nomadic mentality. Sadly, they brainwashed a whole generation of Egyptians.

There are many sheikhs who in-dir-ectly incite sexual harassment, others -dir-ectly incite killing people who leave Islam. This is why an average Egyptian man can only judge a woman by whether she is veiled´-or-not.

After June 30, we are now shaping the future. That future should be free from fundamentalism. The Egyptian people should learn how to accept each others, regardless of political and religious beliefs, and that could never be done without integrating critical thinking in the Egyptian education system. Promoting critical thinking skills can be our next step for raising a new generation that can change our country for the better.
