Leadership Styles and Improvements
Leadership is not about bossing people around and place authority. A leadership is a talent can inspire others and lead with knowledge, authority, and passion. It is how you energize people to work with best of their ability with leader support. Participant and facilitative styles are the most suitable styles as servant leader with bottom up mode, yet I am in control of my decision. Sergiovanni (2007) suggest that servant must give direction, with everyone responsibility to reach the goals requires. This comes with competence leaders with confidence and intention to benefit followers and the organization interest. Leader success when they listen is to all outcomes and ideas and then selects the one that suitable for the situation. When a leader make the decision require carful steps related to the organization goals, objectives, mission, and vision with whole responsibility and not blaming others if does not achieve the results expected. A leader need to be able to be open mind, listen, accept constructive criticism, and learn from other.
Good leadership must provide all training possible to make sure my faculty understands their tasks and organization structures and standards. In addition to that to support creativity, try new things, and like to be different. A leader cannot rest of what they accomplish or settle with what other do. A leader always investigate, search, and research on what other successful leader does to inspire and encourage me to create or alter what they doing to mold it to what our need and according with my styles. Respect, and encourage faculty relationships and expect the same. Accept different ideas and personality in faculty as powerful factor and enjoy creating social and personal anniversary, birthday, or any other celebration to share and enjoy a good time as well as we share the bad time. Purpel (2007) agree that we are not created as a mold and follow rules rather than people deserve dignity, respect, love, as well as preciousness in life to share. These create faculty harmony and corporation as one family as well as create trust and security to continue doing good job. Good job does not mean to be done with it rather than to be the best of what you are doing. If one of the faculties does not get what supposed to be done, a leader must provide personal training and invite what professional in the field to set up workshop sharing experiences and catch up what’s new.
Passionate leadership do not believe neither support medicate job nor attitude. Also do not support any of the faculty to gossip or to announce in personal or in public any admiration. Sergiovanni (2007) agree that leader must not entertain individual getting too close or will lose authority. It is a mistake to hear from some leader saying a “leadership is like politician” I disagree with that because is very basic that leader who care about the followers, the organization success, and with vision for improvement, but politician who care gaining voters votes, play emotion, and may say what they do not believe in order to guarantee a seat and power. Lawrence (2010) stated “they are blind, deaf and vulnerable to politicians who cannot see beyond the next election and hear only the sirens of political survival” (para. 1). A leader identifies issue, evaluated, and search for solution by hard work, creativity, and with honesty.
Area of Improvement
Achieving these goals must be with following steps:
1. Establish a realistic vision.
2. Make it happen with a commitment.
3. Create plan of action.
4. Emphasis feedbacks with open and honest communication.
5. Evaluate the outcomes and make decision.
6. Practice rewards and incentive programs equally and justifiable.
7. Provide ongoing training and workshops.
8. Implementing support creativities and ideas within a financial boundary.
9. All goals and objectives must be in the direction of the organization.
10. Establish these goals with trust and respect.
11. Enforce the rules of professional ethics.
12. Review progress.
The bottom line is how to make progress, and how make thing work with happy environment.
