today,june-15- 2011 will mark three months of demonstrations against the Syrian regime of president Bashar Al Assad and his Ba ath party.
Since the first day of the demonstrations, at one of the Damascus s oldest bazaar, the demonstrators talked about a (Revolution), but for me, after three months, I still believe that what happening in Syria is an uprising, it s not a revolution yet! Why?
In fact, to talk about Revolution , we should see the majority of Syrian population go in protest, and that never happened yet. A wide sections of the society still at houses for many reasons, fear of minorities is not the only one.
Yes, not only the Syrian religious minorities fear of being tortured or oppressed by the Sunni majority of the society, is the reason for not talking about Revolution in Syria. As each body has two lungs, Syria also has two lungs: Damascus and Aleppo.
Syrian people throughout history, used to aspiration, economically and culturally by Aleppo, and, also used to aspiration culturally, commercially and politically by Damascus. So to talk about Revolution in Syria, we should see these both great and important cities go to protest .
Syria really needs Aleppo and Damascus to take part in the events these days, because the power and abilities that the two cities have. Over a half Syria s population live in Damascus and Aleppo, and as cities ( metropolitan) we should not fear, so much, from the Sunni-fundamentalists, who have their centers in countryside of Syria. In cities, like Damascus and Aleppo, Sunni Muslims maybe conservative, but they are not share the same point of views of the fundamentalists. We can depend on Aleppo and Damascus to brake the ambitions of fundamentalists who are really form an danger in the face of the Syrian uprising.
In Syria, wherever you go far away from the big cities, you can see the a very conservative forms of Sunni Islam. The countryside is full of uneducated and religious people who could be driven by ignorant imams easily!.
As I have said before, religious minorities fear! Because the differences in traditions between them and the majority of Sunni Muslims, and that is legal thing, so we should encourage Aleppo and Damascus to take part in demonstrations, because this is one of the most important guarantees to take the uprising to the right place, far away from any form of religious conflict.
No doubt, the events in Jeser Shoughour and neighborhoods, affirm these ideas. However, some criminal events took place there, no one can deny that. As near to borders with Turkey, arms smuggling is very easy there, and we know there are many ignorant religious groups want to be armed to fight for their dreams of pure Islamic state. The big, great and most important question is: who is responsible for allowing these groups being armed?.
The Syrian regime should be shamed on its total authorities and bodies, because the regime itself who is, mainly, responsible for that. Minorities and other peaceful Sunni people will not benefit from the regime propaganda about Islamic armed fundamentalists, because, as peaceful citizens, we believe that our state should protect us, and stop talking about fundamentalism as an existed problem in minds! Because, stealing, smuggling, corruption and other misbehaving are existed also in minds!.
Maybe the Syrian regime will stop looking for thieves, saying: stealing is existed in some citizens minds!. So we can not do any thing to protect you from being stolen..?!.
Fundamentalism , like stealing, is existed in minds in any time and every where, but states should never set the aspiration for them, should never let the perfect environment to be existed for them.
