Loyalty of Islamists

Few months ago, a friend of mine had a project for university about the relation between Muslims and the country they live in. when she asked me I thought it’s hard to judge millions of people coming from different ideological backgrounds and different environment, with different sets of principles and behaves in an inflexible and unjust way. I thought the question of religion and loyalty to the state shouldn’t differ from a religion to another.

Few days later, I was invited for a wedding party of a friend, and there I had a big boring conversation with his family discussing Hamas, Gaza, and the relation between government and the people in Gaza, through our conversation we discussed the loyalty of the Islamic group of Hamas and the loyalty of its members. I was not impressed with the way dogma takes over some people.

From what I understood, one of the guys having debate with me, was a university graduate with a B.A. in Media… when asked about his loyalty and if it goes in first place to his country… he answered and put it in clear words, that his loyalty goes and will always go in first place to the leadership of Hamas, regardless the country… and that’s Hamas leadership can’t be wrong in a single thing, and so they should be obeyed…

March 18th, after attacking the pro-unity protests, I had a conversation with a friend working in Hamas police force in Gaza, the brutal need in a place under siege, and no access to luxury, no work opportunities, it drove some people to work in this police force of either Fatah or Hamas.

When asked why they are attacking these protests he said that these protestors are either working for Ramallah (Fatah), or working for Israel. At a sudden 300 thousand people who got out to call for unity and justice, where sentenced to marginalization and death. I am not surprised since this was the official story told by Hamas TV – (Al Aqsa). I asked him to forget about these spies and Israeli agents who want to unite the Palestinian nation, and asked him personally if he stands against unity or with it?

The answer would be heard from the majority of those working with or for Hamas, “I have a job, and a salary every month, this situation gives me my chance, why would I stand for unity?”

You ask me about the loyalty of Islamists, it is obvious, they are most likely to be loyal to their pocket, and the ones telling them the boring lies about paradise maidens.
