Let’s all be a part of an International Campaign against killing of women in the name of honour
Let’s all be a part of an International Campaign against killing of women in the name of honour
The statistics of the last ten years have shown that the Arab and the Islamic countries in the Middle East are in the frontline when it comes to the violation of the rights of women, using violence against them, and more dangerously and sadly murdering women on the pretext of combating the family’s and tribe’s honour. Some male members of some families are justifying this cowardly action and uncivilized crime against women by accusing them of being involved in an illegal sexual intercourse or love affair, which are considered as a great and intolerable taboo. Surprisingly, some narrow-minded men in these countries are even disrespecting and undermining the role of civil law and putting themselves in the position of judges and making a deadly judgment on the life of innocent women.
We call upon the International Community, women organizations, human rights organizations, civil society organizations and all the political parties that are concerned with the rights of women and their struggle for equality with men and basic rights in the Arab World and the Middle East to:
• Condemn the committing of these cowardly and immoral crimes and using violence against women. Show your solidarity with women’s campaigns against these crimes that are committed against them on a daily basis.
• Ask and put a pressure on all the governments in both the Middle East and North Africa to put an end to these unjustified violations of women s rights by uprooting their causes in local communities.
• Abolish laws that could contribute to facilitate the use of violence against women, and apply the severest punishments on those who are committing and encouraging these crimes
• Set up committees to defend women s rights and protect them against violence and killing, and build up special houses for sheltering the women who live in a vulnerable condition with their families.
• Demand that all Arab and the Islamic countries adhere to International Conventions that advocate the protection of the rights of women. The conventions should be respected and be taken into the consideration and be a part of local laws.
The Progressive Centre for Studies and Research on women’s affairs and their equality is aiming at making this campaign as global as possible; it is looking forward to making it a new starting point for sharing your proposals and activities that could show solidarity with women and benefit their struggle for equal rights. Your contributions and activities on behalf of women should stand against the policies of the governments that tolerate these atrocities.

I work daily against honour related violence in Sweden and abroad, both professionally and volontary. When it comes to honour related violence it is the immense violence existing in the world caused by religious fundamentalism and conservative tradition. It is also used frequently in war. It is a big threat to women´s and children´s right as well as LGTB persons and men. This violence is extreme hard to work against when it is collective and some time it is also permitted by the societies laws.
We need to work together against it. Please participate also Network against honour related violence by www.minheder.nu Best regards Maria Hagberg +46 733 484400

Where is the honour in killing our better halves?! Why the weak and the meek are always punished?! Honour is in respecting life, preserving it, and celebrating it. If women are our honour then let us love them and let them live, for they bring us to life, train and preserve us, and help us love and live life. Long live women, our mothers ,sisters, wives, lovers, daughters, partners, friends, teachers, playmates and the best manifestation of life in existence. Let us preserve life by preserving women. If punishing we must, then let us punish those who abuse women and prosecute and execute those who kill women. Amen

Gender equality is a fact. Recognize it. May you imagine how would it be like, if women started honour killing men? This doesnt happen just for a litte think called Love, which women are used to apply. And for sure Love has much more to do with God than Kill. Please, think over it. Wishes of Love to all the women (girls, children, elderlies, ...) of the World. To every single one of them.

This practice of ‘honour killing’ is a form of murder without trialIntimate violence against women is a worldwide crisis, many types of aggression against women occur at the hands of family members. The so-called “honor killing” of women and girls in some Muslim nations .
“We should have no tolerance for the acceptance of ‘honour killings’ … We have to change some cultural and societal perceptions of the place and value of women in society

Men who kill women on the pretext of honor are neither man nor are they human beings. Their sense of manhood is so fragile and breakable that they need to kill a woman to strengthen or even create their sense of manhood. They are not human beings, despite their deceptive appearances, because anyone who takes the law in his hand is acting according to the laws of forest; he is then the equivalent of an animal. Those killers themselves are a disgrace and dishonor. They should be brought to books and punished harshly.

-Killing for Honor-. Under this title men kill women to clean their honor. I like to ask those men who believe in such conduct,- are they clean themselves-????? Because if they are following certain religion, religion, itself, stops both men and women from any infidality. So why men take the initiative to kill for honor? Meanwhile, they give themselves all the right to do what they want!!! So as a conclusion -Killing for Honor- is a criminal ACT should be dealt with strictly by LAW.

Shouldnt men be killed for the same crime? Why would a man be pardened for his sexual deeds, even rape, while his victems are judged and sentenced to death, and desgraced socially? Faithfulness is a human merit for both genders, and violation of which is a guilt for both. In holy Quran, it is the same punishment for both genders in fornication. So what would be the base of any civil law that dedicates discrimination against one gender only; WOMEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am happy to participate in this campaign. Violence against women is a gross violation of human rights and it has to stop. We all have a responsibility not to ignore what is going on and take action, especially States and Governments.

There is no excuse for ignorance and killing in the name of honor is the act of a uncivilized person(s) - education is needed to inform these people that all people are created equal - men and women are equal. The killing of Dua Khalil Aswad on April 7, 2007 was the ultimate sin - the 1000 men that stoned this 17 year old girl to death for falling in love with someone outside her faith was murder and nothing less. The fact that these people felt they had the right to take her life was wrong and they should have been severely punished. People that kill/injure in the name of honor are making a mockery of themselves and their country. The world knows that this is wrong - if you want to be a part of a civilized world you had better have your people act civilized and this means ending all forms of murder/torture against women in the name of honor.

Since i have a relation with an arabic man i can allso see clearly that only to shout abolish this injustice is not the way. Since i can see that this act of violence against women is build in a complex structure of selfvalue of men/ society. It is a trap for women. So i think besides abolishing violence one should look at the psychological structure that makes it posssible to even think about violence against women. Why and how to slowly try change this thinking patron and social structure.

The atrocities perpetrated on women by men, in the name of religion (while in reality they serve the power of coward dictators) are unacceptable. We, that are living in free countries, have the responsibility to do something about it.

I support the campaign to end abuse of women in the name of honour - particularly when this notion is used an opportunity by men as a means to control women and their human-rights through abuse, intimidation and fear.
The continued freedoms that men abuse in the name of honour must be shown as the cowardly and criminal acts that they are, particularly in the global world of today - womens human rights must be respected so that women no longer throughout the world no longer have to live in fear.
